In a heartfelt tribute to the bravery of all Filipino heroes who fought for the nation’s freedom and safety, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the La Union Provincial Tourism Office, commemorated National Heroes’ Day on August 26, 2024, at Heroes Park, Guerrero Road, City of San Fernando, La Union.
This year’s theme, “Kabayanihan ng Pilipino sa Panahon ng Pagbabago,” underscores the resilience and courage of Filipinos during times of transformation and challenge. It highlights the spirit of heroism, from the country’s forefathers to modern-day heroes, which inspired societal contributions. It serves as a reminder of the collective strength needed to overcome obstacles and build a brighter future for the nation.
Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, through Executive Assistant Justo “Tito” Orros III, honored the heroes’ contributions and highlighted the continuous display of heroism in the province up to the present, “Nakatutuwa pong malaman na nananalaytay sa ating mga Pilipino ang dugo ng ating mga bayani dahil patuloy pa rin po tayong nakasasaksi ng kabayanihan… mula sa ating mga first responders hanggang sa mga volunteers… mabuhay po ang mga bayani ng kahapon, ngayon, at bukas!”
Furthermore, a wreath-laying ceremony occurred, where Vice Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega along with Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Members Gerard G. Ostrea, Victor I. Rivera, and Pablo C. Ortega, led the offering of wreaths at the statues of various heroes throughout the park. They were joined by Acting Provincial Administrator Engr. Robert Lelina and PGLU Department Heads and Chiefs of Hospitals.
As the program concluded, attendees united in singing La Union Hymn as they expressed pride and commitment to carry forth the legacy of those who paved the way for today’s freedom.
