La Union, Region 1’s 4-H’ers Bag Agriculture Awards; Join ATI 71st Farm Youth National Con

Members of the 4-H Club of La Union were among the representatives of Region 1 and La Union at the 71st Farm Youth National Convention with the theme "RELIVE the 4-H in YOUth": Re-energizing and Empowering 4-H Leaders in Valuable Agri-Fishery Engagements" on June 17 to 21, 2024 at Siargao Island Sports and Tourism Center, Dapa, Siargao Island.
Conducted by the 4-H Club of the Philippines and the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), the event is the largest gathering of 4-H Clubs in the Philippines with innovative workshops, hands-on activities, and networking opportunities among 4-H members. It was joined by 450 participants composed of young farmers, coordinators, and the Volunteer Leaders Association of the Philippines (VLAP) from different regions in the country committed to a holistic approach towards agricultural innovation, entrepreneurship, and livelihood. This national annual convention intends to evaluate the delegate's agricultural competency and skills in various competitions that aim to promote, build, and give awareness to the sector.
Showcasing their culinary skills and using coconut as the main ingredient in three dishes, the team from 4-H Bangar, Reggi J. Hidalgo and Michelle C. Jaramilla, together with 4-H City of San Fernando’s Maybel Cabanban won 3rd place in the Coconut Processing Contest. Marjoe V. Madriaga, a member of the 4H Club from the Municipality of Rosario, placed 13th in the Agri-Innovation Pitching category with his creative solutions for agricultural challenges.
Additionally, 4-H Bangar’s Edmer O. Mueca placed 12th in the search for the Most Outstanding 4-H Member for his outstanding youth leadership in the organization and the community. Finally, Ranvil Mae C. Reyes from 4-H Luna was elected as the 4-H Club of the Philippines National Secretary.
Region 1 4-H’er’s collective efforts secured a notable 7th place finish in the overall ranking, serving as a testament to the region's commitment to fostering future leaders in Philippine Agriculture.
The youth convention was also participated in by Provincial Youth Development Officer Zyjazz D. de Guzman; together with the City of San Fernando City Youth Development Officer Jerome G. Acupan; Bacnotan Municipal Youth Development Officer Marc Jandel L. Buccat; San Juan Municipal Youth Development Officer-designate Ariel Ashley Palabay; Balaoan Municipal Youth Development Officer-designate Kevin Ocasion; and Naguilian Municipal Youth Development Officer-designate Jino Banaña. 4-H Municipal Coordinator Violeta M. Acido and 4-H City Coordinator Mary Dulce V. Camat accompanied and supported the team throughout the event.
With La Union’s vision to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025 at reach, the Provincial Government of La Union, headed by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, remains devoted to the provision of support for agricultural actors in order to sustain and further develop the province’s agricultural growth.
