60 College Students with Disabilities Awarded Educational Assistance

Demonstrating the province’s significant step towards inclusivity and support for the Person with Disability (PWD) Sector, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David awarded educational assistance worth Php 5,000.00 each to 60 college students with disabilities on June 18, 2024, at the Office of the Governor lobby, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.

This initiative of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), in collaboration with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, underscores PGLU's commitment to supporting the educational pursuits of students with disabilities, ensuring they have the necessary resources to succeed in their academic endeavors.

The event also showcased the remarkable determination of the students, who, amidst facing various challenges and special needs, had exhibited resilience that inspired kaPROBINSYAnihan.

Gov. Rafy personally awarded the said assistance underscoring the significance of education. She emphasized that disabilities must not deter beneficiaries from chasing their dreams, as she quotes, “Humahanga ako na sa kabila ng lahat ay pursigido kayong ipagpatuloy ang inyong pag-aaral, at kahit mahirap ang buhay ay lumalaban tayo para sa pangarap natin. Hindi po talaga dapat maging hadlang ang ano mang kapansanan para maabot natin ang ating mga pangrap, bagkus ay maging motivation po natin ito upang maging inspirasyon din tayo sa iba.”

Also in attendance was Pederasyon ng May Kapansanan ng La Union President Mr. Felix Q. Baliclic, Jr. who took the opportunity to publicly express his heartfelt gratitude to Gov. Rafy for her unwavering and continuous support for the PWD sector.

He further highlighted how Gov. Rafy's initiatives have significantly contributed to improving accessibility, providing educational assistance, and fostering an inclusive community where PWDs can thrive. His acknowledgment served to underscore the vital role of government support in enhancing the quality of life for PWDs and ensuring their active participation in society.

With the support of the PGLU, Gov. Rafy, and other ally stakeholders, La Union will continue to be a safe place for PWDs where they can thrive and inspire others, contributing to a more inclusive and supportive society.
