81 STUDENTS EARN WORK EXPERIENCE IN PGLU THROUGH SPES PROGRAM

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment – La Union Field Office (DOLE-LUFO) granted a total of 81 students the opportunity for short-term employment under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) implemented in the PGLU.
Before the SPES beneficiaries started working in PGLU, Provincial PESO Manager Ms. Charito C. Dator facilitated an orientation for the students about information and guidelines for their employment under SPES. The students were oriented on important aspects pertaining to proper dress code compliance, good work etiquette practice, and how to interact professionally with clients. The two batches of SPES beneficiaries were assigned in the different offices of PGLU. The first 48 SPES beneficiaries were deployed from July 17 to August 15, 2023, while the additional 31 SPES beneficiaries started their employment on August 17, 2023.
The SPES beneficiaries also had the opportunity to meet Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David who encouraged them to work diligently and be productive while they are earning additional income to cover their school-related expenses through SPES. Gov. Rafy also ensured them that their stay in the PGLU would be a productive and significant one.
SPES is one of the PESO programs that aims to grant assistance to qualified, underprivileged, but deserving, students to work during vacation and earn income while pursuing their education. PGLU together with DOLE are continuously practice #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan by empowering youth to be employable by training them in a real work setting so that they may gain basic work skills that companies nowadays require.
The funding for the salaries of SPES beneficiaries is shared between the PGLU, covering 60%, and DOLE-LUFO, providing the remaining 40%. SPES is mandated under Republic Act 10917 and DOLE Department Order No. 175 Series of 2017.
