As a manifestation of its efforts toward the provision of universal access to basic needs in La Union, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through its Provincial Health Office (PHO), organized a Medical and Dental Outreach Program to Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) in the province.
The outreach program was conducted in seven GIDA Barangays in six Municipalities, namely Dagup, Bagulin; Up-uplas, Sudipen; Lipay, San Gabriel; Macabato, Aringay; and Aguioas and San Isidro, Naguilian from which a total of 722 KaPROBINSYAnihan were assessed and given aid.
Medical staff of PHO administered Medical Consultation, Laboratory Examination, Dental Services, Eye Checkup, Referrals for Minor and/ or Major Surgeries, Free Medicine distribution, and PhilHealth Registration, which were among the most common services the patients from GIDA sought out when getting medical assistance. Despite their remote location and lack of resources, residents were given quality healthcare from competent medical providers through the program.
Medical and Dental Outreach Programs for underserved populations have always been part of the priorities of the PGLU under the leadership of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David. It was incorporated into the Ayat Fest, KaLUsugan Caravan, and other projects launched by the PHO.
The GIDA Medical and Dental Outreach Program is an ongoing project that will visit more barangays within the month. With its continued execution powered through the La Union PROBINSYAnihan of the medical sector, the PGLU continues to be a catalyst of sustainable and inclusive development that improves the quality of life of the people.
