The spirit of La Union PROBINSYAnihan was once again demonstrated as the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) under the leadership of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David conducted a massive tree planting of 1,500 native forest tree seedlings participated by 200 KaPROBINSYAnihan under the Project TREE, Taking Responsibility for Elyu’s Environment, on September 13, 2024, at Barangay Bato, Naguilian, La Union.
“Under our #KalikasanNaman campaign, hindi po nauubos ang mga inisyatibo natin para sa kapaligiran… kasama ng bawat isa sa inyo, palagi pong magkakaroon ng saysay ang mga tree planting activities na ito dahil makikita po natin ang aktwal na epekto ng mga ito sa ating pamumuhay,” Gov. Rafy, through Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) Department Head Annalyn Rosario-Valdez, emphasized in her message to inspire the participants. She assured everyone that the PGLU will continue to launch environmental programs to keep pushing for #KalikasanNaman in La Union.
The participants of the event were from different agencies such as Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, La Union Vibrant Women, Inc., Sanggunian Kabataan, Local Government Unit of Naguilian - Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, Council, Barangay Bato officials and residents, Bato Farmers Association, 103rd Community Defense Center, Guardian (NGO), and the PGLU. They took part in planting the seedlings, particularly 650 Cacao, 340 Jack Fruit, 45 Pomelo, 45 Chestnut, 100 Coffee, 50 Mabolo, 70 Cashew, 75 Duhat, 10 Star Apple, 15 Carmay, 25 Rambutan, 25 Bignay, and 50 tamarind.
Before planting, a short program was observed with a discussion of the importance of tree planting, a brief orientation on how to plant, the proper distance to maintain, and the benefits of the said activity. The ‘Project TREE’ tree planting activity encouraged the public to execute proactive approaches in managing and maintaining the ecological balance of the environment, thus creating a healthier ecosystem for all KaPROBINSYAnihan. It was made possible through the PG-ENRO in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Naguilian and Barangay Bato.
The Project TREE is among the many activities lined up for the Countdown of the La Union Founding Anniversary 2025 on March 2, 2025.
