More than 200 local entrepreneurs from La Union gathered and joined the first-ever Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Summit in the province held on November 18, 2022 at the Agora Events Center, Thunderbird Resorts, San Fernando City, La Union.
Initiated by the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Local Economic Enterprise and Investment Promotions Unit (LEEIPU), the summit dubbed as KAYA CON! 2022 Agri-Tourism & Elyupreneurs Startup was designed to foster strategic dialogue between entrepreneurs and have the opportunity to exchange ideas and insights in establishing strategies for business recovery. It is also a testament of PGLUโs commitment in providing assistance and support to MSMEs in the province by giving them opportunities to grow.
โOur MSMEs form part of the backbone of our economy, generating more than half of our employment and this is why it is fully recognized with the support of the Provincial Governorโ, Ms. Angela Grace C. Peralta, LEEIPU Head remarked during the opening.
Gov. Raphaelle Veronica โRafyโ Ortega-David was also present to personally encourage the local entrepreneurs. She mentioned how KAYA CON will open doors of opportunities for them. โWe can say that this congress is the start of our introduction to a wider range and broader scope of MSMEs. Our first, and our start up to a more improved sector of entrepreneurs from La Union.โ
Five established and successful local MSME owners were invited to share their start-up stories and best practices. They were Mr. Ramon Tamayo of Tobeeโs Apiary, Mr. Manuel G. Acosta of Ibitโs Farm, Mr. Timoteo V. De Guzman of Uncle Tomโs Food Products, Mr. Ireneo Zaldo Panes of Halog West Producers Cooperative, and Ms. Lopemae Hana B. Bautista of L&D Citrus Farm.
The regional and provincial line agencies of the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture, Department of Labor and Employment, Food and Drugs Authority, and Landbank of the Philippines also joined to KAYA CON to discuss their programs and assistance to MSMEs.
The Provincial Government of La Union continues to support the MSMEs in La Union and acknowledges their role in the economic advancement of the province and in the realization of making La Union the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
