In view of the International Coastal Clean-Up celebration, 351 bags filled with residual wastes weighing a total of 1,356.7 kilograms were collected over La Unionโ€™s 35.8 kilometer coastline during the Coastal Clean-Up Activity spearheaded by the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) on September 17, 2022

The said annual event aims to lessen the plastic and other marine pollutants that are generated inland and being deposited in our coastlines. The activity employed a ridge to reef approach to clean all coastlines and waterways from Sudipen to Rosario, La Union in accordance to this yearโ€™s theme โ€œFighting for Trash Free Seas- Pilipinas: Ending the flow of Trash at the Sourceโ€.

Among the commonly collected wastes were single-use plastics such as food wrappers, grocery bags, plastic beverage bottles and caps. Others collected were rubber/strapping bands, fishing lines/ropes, plastic playing cards, floor mats and pesticide containers that were discriminately discarded along waterways and coastlines. Diapers, disposable gloves and masks (PPEs) and discarded clothing are also common wastes found in clean-up sites.

Data collected from the clean-up was sent to Ocean Conservancy for reporting and documentation of ICC Day conducted in the Province of La Union.

On the other hand, mangrove planting was likewise initiated in the Municipality of Bangar in addition to the coastal clean-up to celebrate ICC Day.

The Provincial Government of La Union continues to call for #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan to partake and support #KalikasanNaman campaign as we continue to build a better environment for the future generations.
