In line with the Agri-Tourism Vision of La Union, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Tourism chaired by Board Member Christian I. Rivera, in partnership with the La Union Provincial Tourism Office, Department of Public Works and Highways 1st and 2nd Engineering Districts, Provincial Engineering Office, and Tourism Officers of the concerned Local Government Units conducted ocular inspection with Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to the acclaimed tourism sites in the province on May 26 and June 2, 2022.

The ocular inspection was conducted in relation to the passage of Draft Provincial Ordinance No. 356-2021, β€œOfficially Naming the La Union Tourism Sites and Installing Markers thereof” in which the possible location and appropriate markers to be installed were inspected. Likewise, the inspection team also checked on the possible tourism development that could be introduced in the areas.

Among the sites visited were Simminublan Falls and Bilagan Road in Santol; Bangar Weaving Industry, Kamay na Bato in Luna; Immuki Island and Man-made Forest in Balaoan; Bacnotan Agri-Tourism Center; Bauang Bakawan Eco-Park; Salapak Tunnel in Aringay; Tapuakan River and El Anniversario Cultural Museum in Pugo; and Agoo Eco-park.

During the FGD it was suggested that the prospect specific areas where the markers or signages will be erected must be carefully studied with consideration on the location and how it would be beneficial to the people residing near the specific tourism site. It was also suggested that a memorandum of agreement be executed between the private lot owner and the Provincial Government of La Union with respect to the terms and conditions to be set forth relative to the installation of signages and the permission to be given by the said owner.

All observations, suggestions and recommendations will be lumped in a report that will be submitted by the Committee on Tourism for consideration by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. Likewise, the Draft Provincial Ordinance No. 356-2021 will be modified accordingly to include results of the FGDs and the suggestions of the members of the committees and the same be submitted for 2nd Reading.

With the said ordinance, the PGLU is confident that the Tourism Industry in La Union shall continue to bloom for the realization of a #StrongerLaUnion, a province worth living in.
