For its valuable contribution to sustainable urban tourism development, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) was awarded by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) - Dr. Andrew L. Tan (ALT) Center for Tourism and Megaworld Foundation, Inc. as one of the recipients of the first Philippine Tourism Excellence Awards for the category Good Local Governance on November 18, 2022 at Sheraton Manila Hotel, Newport World Resorts.
The awarding ceremony was attended by Provincial Tourism Officer Arthur S. Cortez, Jr. and Culture and Arts Officer Joy Ann L. Gurtiza on behalf of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica βRafyβ Ortega-David.
In the La Union profile submitted by PGLU, Gov. Rafy underscored the importance of having a strong and meaningful collaboration among the local government units, business owners, residents, and other stakeholders as they must also develop and enforce strong regulations that promote responsible behavior among tourists. They must also invest in programs, projects and activities that improve the quality of life for residents, workers, and tourists.

That is why I call on La Union PROBINSYAnihan, or coming together with all provincemates to achieve our targets. The honor of being an awardee of the first Philippine Tourism Excellence Awards for Good Local Governance mirrors our commitment to ensure that the PGLU is an active agent for Tourism Development,β Gov. Rafy said in a recorded video message.
Gov. Rafy also extend her heartfelt gratitude to the AIM β Dr. ALT Center for Tourism for the recognition as she commits together with the people of La Union, to ramp up #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan and elevate the Tourism initiatives of the province as part of nation-building.
