Barangays Ubbog in Bangar and Al-alinao Norte, in Naguilian, La Union including two Provincial Nurseries are are now more capable in the proper management of biodegradable and agricultural wastes after the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) turned over to them bio-shredders and dual drum composter on June 20, 2022 at at the Mabanag Compound, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The donation of Solid Waste Management Equipment to the said recipients is aligned to the Provincial Government of La Unionโs (PGLU) SoLUsyon sa PoLUsyon program which became possible with the forged partnership between PGLU, DOST, barangays and nurseries in the province.
The said partnership is to empower, equip and leverage support mechanism to the barangays qnd nurseries in the implementation of solid waste management and ensure compliance of the provisions stipulated in Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. Further, the provision of the said equipment aims not just to promote and accelerate the proper management of biodegradable wastes, but also produce fertilizers that could be viable source of income of the local government unit.
In Gov. Francisco Emmanuel โPacoyโ R. Ortega IIIโs message delivered by Executive Assistant Justo H. Orros III, he expressed his profound gratitude to the Regional and Provincial Office of the DOST and stressed the importance of the donated equipment in the #KalikasanNaman Campaign of the PGLU.
โAs the Father of the Province of La Union, environment is very close to my heart as I am an advocate of the #KalikasanNaman campaign. With the newly-acquired equipment bound with love from our beloved stakeholders, may this serve as motivation for us to achieve a more ecological, clean, and environment-friendly Province,โ the Governor said.
Director Jonathan Viernes, Provincial Director of DOST-La Union delivered the turn-over message and discussed the importance of the said equipment in accelerating the proper management of biodegradable wastes. He also emphasized the role of the Local Government Units, especially the barangays, in the management of biodegradable wastes.
The Barangay Captains expressed their gratitude and called for coordinated efforts from their constituents for the sustainability of the equipment.
Also present to witness the turning over were Provincial Government - Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) Officer-in-Charge and Supervising Environmental Management Specialist EnP. Annalyn Rosario-Valdez; Barangay Captains Medel Delos Reyes and Ferdinand Dingle of Al-alinao Norte and Ubbog, respectively; PG-ENRO staff and some residents from the barangay-recipients.
The Provincial Government of La Union strengthens its effort to improve its solid waste management system to sustain a clean and attractive Province for all kaprobinsiaan.
