To enhance the ability of jobseekers in obtaining work skills and increase their employability in the labor market, the Provincial Government of La Union through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in partnership with the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University β Mid La Union Campus (DMMMSU-MLUC) and their school-based PESO, the Trabaho Center, successfully conducted the Skills and Employability Enhancement Training for Jobseekers on November 25, 2022 at the College of Management Audio-Visual Room, DMMMSU-MLUC, Catbangen, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The activity was attended by 77 participants who are alumni of DMMMSU and college graduating students from DMMMSU-MLUC.
La Union Provincial Gov. Raphaelle Veronica βRafyβ Ortega-David gave her motivational video message for the participants, βBilang gobernador ng La Union, batid ko po ang mga pangarap at pangangailangan ng bawat isa sa inyo, ganun din po ang inyong mga kapamilya. Makakaasa po kayo na ang lahat ng 'yan ay ating mabibigyang pansin at sisikapin nating makamit kasabay ng katuparang maging Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025 ang probinsya ng La Union.
βKaya naman po kaprobinsiaan, let's manifest good new today and the days ahead of us! I-claim natin na after ng training na ito, magiging maganda ang responses ng mga kumpanya at offices na aapply-an natin. Keep that positivity and optimism na lalabas kayo sa training na ito bitbit ang confidence at pag-asang magkakatrabaho na kayo sooner.β
DMMMSU-MLUC Chancellor, Dr. Eduardo C. Corpuz, also expressed his sincere gratitude to all collaborating partner agencies and participants, βI would like to extend my deep thanks and utmost appreciation, in behalf of the DMMMSU administration, to all participants and sponsors to make this event possible. Thank you for all your hard work and innovation to ensure that there is no skills mismatch, ensure employability of students upon graduation. The feedback from employers and partner agencies will assist us to better develop school curriculum and training program.β
The Skills and Employability Enhancement Training aims to assist jobseekers to enhance their employability for their self-development. Resource Speakers from the PGLU-Provincial Information Office, Ms. Geraldine B. Salazar-Lucero; Ms. Maria Grace A. Revilla; and Mr. John Elysar C. Martin, introduced to the participants the concepts in Preparing for a Job Interview, Goal Setting and Other Self-improvement topics and Effective Oral Communication.
In addition, Ms. Darbie Ann R. Fernandez, Labor and Employment Officer III and Engr. Rovan Alvic L. Opinaldo, LEO III- Foreign National Labor Inspector (FNLI) of the Department of Labor and Employment-La Union Field Office (DOLE-LUFO) oriented the participants with Labor Education and Right of Workers. Mr. Edwin M. Visaya, Labor Communications of the Department of Migrant Workers β Region I discussed the Anti-Illegal Recruitment-Trafficking in Person (AIR-TIP) Campaign. Provincial PESO Manager, Ms. Charito C. Dator provided information about the accessibility of the Find Jobs La Union Employment Portal.
With the collaborating efforts of partner agencies in providing assistance to jobseekers, newly graduates, out-of-school-youth and the unemployed, Gov. Rafy is committed to develop innovative ways of delivering opportunities of equipping kaprobinsiaan for work, preparing future generations for their productive lives, and providing them with the core skills that enable them to solve real world problems. This training program does not only prepare them in developing their skills but also hopes to instill in them the value and dignity of labor and become contributing members of the country.
