Amidst the strong winds and heavy rains caused by Tropical Storm Florita in Northern Luzon on August 23, 2022, The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), in partnership with Saint Louis College (SLC) safely and successfully conducted a Campus Jobs Fair held at SLCβs Father Burgos Gymnasium, Carlatan, City of San Fernando, La Union.
With the collective efforts of PESO-La Union and SLCβs Job Placement Office, a total of 404 jobseekers were able to register for local and overseas employment. Out of 376 applicants who pushed through with the same-day job interview, nine were hired on the spot.
Twenty-two participating local employers offered a total of 2,069 job opportunities which includes job for administrative assistant, area manager, cashier, checker/inventory officer, collections specialists, customer service representatives, general manager, marketing staff, office clerk, retail/sales agents, sales assistant, stockman, sales personnel, supervisor, saw filler, service crew, welder and others. While one overseas recruitment agency offered 500 jobs for A/C technician, account assistant, auto electrician, barber, barista, cook, driver, engineer, mechanical engineer, nail technician, nurses, salesperson, salesman, service crew, waiter and waitress and a lot more.
SLC President Rev. Fr. Ramon R. Caluza, CICM, expressed his sincere gratitude to the PGLU-PESO and the SLC organizing committee. Moreso, he assured not only their continuous partnership with the PGLU, but also their commitment in giving assistance to jobseekers in the province.

Saint Louis College San Fernando City is committed to help all jobseekers, professionals and technicians that they may be able to secure and have an employment that would give them better living conditions and also recognizing and respecting the value and the productive results of their efforts. We believe, my dear friends, that work or labor is a vocal path for us to develop and recognize our human dignity,β Fr. Caluza said.
PESO Manager, Ms. Charito C. Dator, also shared her sincere gratitude for Saint Louis College for collaborating with PGLU-PESO. βI would like to thank Saint Louis College, headed by Rev. Fr. Ramon Caluza, for having this activity, talagang malaking tulong sa atin ito, lalo po sa ating mga kaprobinsyaan na naghahanap ng trabaho.β
Also during the job fair, Supervising Labor & Employment Officer, Ms. Bernadette M. Mamitag, from the Department of Labor & Employment β La Union Field Office (DOLE-LUFO ) conducted labor education to the group of jobseekers present. She oriented them about DOLEβs services on employment facilitation, workers protection, hiring rate and right of workers.
As we continue to brave through the COVID-19 pandemic, our collaboration with partner agencies in generating employment programs will reinforce policies and programs on mitigating the rising effects of unemployment. The PGLU through PESO will always commit to engage in different economic activities on labor access facilitation and upgrading the skills of our jobseekers through trainings. The #LaUnionKaprobinsyanihan of our servant leaders for our kaprobinsyaan will help the labor sector to continue their economic activities and duties in the new normal.
