The efforts of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) to protect and promote the welfare and interests of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in the province during the pandemic was recognized by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office I (OWWA RWO1) during their celebration of the 27th Migrant Workerโ€™s Day or Araw ng Pasasalamat 2022 held on June 20, 2022 at the J & V Hotel and Resort, City of San Fernando, La Union.

A Madaydayaw Award was accorded to PGLU for actively participating in OWWAโ€™s Hatid-Sundo Program. Moreso, the said award exhibits PGLUโ€™s exemplified teamwork and camaraderie with OWWA and different regional and provincial line agencies by working hand-in-hand in making sure that our kaprobinsiaan OFWs will reach their doorsteps safe and sound through unhampered travel across the borders in the region.

Through the mentioned OWWA Transportation Assistance, a total of 14,638 OFWs from La Union came home to the province safely with the assistance of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office by providing them border assistance, security and free transportation from Rosario, La Union Boarder to their respective municipalities; and the Provincial Migrant Desk Office under the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) for its active coordination with OWWA RWO1.

Provincial PESO Manager and Provincial Migrant Desk Officer Ms. Charito C. Dator received the said recognition on behalf of Gov. Francisco Emmanuel โ€œPacoyโ€ R. Ortega III.

Gov. Pacoy, in his recorded video message, expressed his gratitude to OWWA RWO1 for their programs and services that has aided the OFWs who were affected by the pandemic.

โ€œThrough your programs and services, our OFWs are slowly coping with their loss. Maraming salamat, dahil naging tulay kayo sa kanilang muling pag-bangon,โ€ said Gov. Pacoy.

On the other hand, La Union Medical Center was awarded with Siglat Award for their prompt service to OFWs and making sure that quick responses are made available and delivered on a short notice without compromising the quality of their services and work.

As of January 20, 2022 OWWA Membership Records, La Union is the second to have the largest number of OFWs in the Region with a total number of 84,128.

The PGLU continues its endeavor in collaborating with other government offices and stakeholders, as well as improving programs and services that extends possible assistance needed by our kaprobinsiaan in general, including the OFWs and their families, as they play a big role in building a #StrogerLaUnion, a province worth living in.
