Governor Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David officiated the induction of the new set of officers of the Provincial Agricultural and Fisheries Council (PAFC) on July 21, 2022 at the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) Conference Room, Sevilla, City of San Fernando, La Union. The induction of new officers was done during PAFCโs General Assembly where Provincial Executive/Sectoral Committee Officers, Local Government Unit (LGU) Chairpersons, and other stakeholders attended.
After the induction, Gov. Rafy congratulated the officers and expressed her gratitude to the council for being the key players in boosting local economy under the province's agricultural and fishery sectors. She also emphasizes that the Provincial Government of La Union, under her administration, will be focusing on #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan and how PAFC will be of help in making this advocacy possible for the kaprobinsiaan.
After the induction of officers, the council proceeded to their meeting proper. To prepare the council with the Governorโs call for unity with #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan, Ms. Agnes Grace A. Cargamento, Provincial Administrator and Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, shared and discussed Gov. Rafyโs P.U.S.O. Agenda. On the other hand, Ms. Patrisha Joy Reytana, Region 1 Area Coordinator of the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF), encouraged the council, especially form the LGUs, to speak about issues and concerns facing the agriculture and fisheries sector which need resolutions and recommendations. This resulted in discussions on how OPAg and PAFC will execute programs and services aligned to the current Provincial Administrator's agenda that would benefit the kaprobinsiaan in their focused sectors. Also, Mr. Carlo Magno G. Castillo, Jr. and Mr. Apolinario Peralta of OPAg, presented the plans and programs for the fisheries and aquatic resources sector of the province.
Meanwhile, Ms. Janet M. Mendoza, Labor and Employment Officer III of the Department of Labor and Employment-La Union; and Ms. Filipina H. Porio, Senior Cooperative Development Specialist of the Cooperative Development Authority Region 1, discussed the requirements and process of registration of farmers/fisherfolk associations and cooperatives. Some issues and concerns were also raised, wherein 2 resolutions were also moved to be recommended and endorsed by concerned agencies.
With the new set of PAFC officers, and with their new OIC, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist is confident that they would be able to further uplift the Agriculture and Fishery Sector of La Union and that they would provide excellent services to the kaprobinsiaan as they join and support PGLUโs call for #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan for a #StrongerLaUnion.
