La Union Health Network attends the joint Health Emergency Response Operation (HERO) Training Course conducted by the Department of Health - Health Emergency Management Bureau (DOH-HEMB) on August 22 to 26, 2022 at the Venezia Hotel in Subic, Zambales.

Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC), the province's Apex Hospital, made the HERO Training Course possible through the coordinated efforts of Dr. Marvin F. Munar, ITRMC DRRM-H Manager and Dr. Eduardo M. Badua III, ITRMC Medical Center Chief with the DOH Central Office.

National Trainers from DOH-HEMB facilitated the five-day HERO Training Course to Health Emergency and Disaster Operations Managers from different agencies in Region 1 which included delegates from the Provincial Government of La Union - Provincial Health Office (PHO) and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), La Union Medical Center, La Union District Hospitals, ITRMC and Local Government Units of Luna and Aringay.

Said training course involved various lectures and hands-on training on Risk Reduction and Disaster Management, Health Emergency and Response Operations, Information Management and Coordination in Emergencies and Disasters, Health Code Alert System, Incident Command System, Mass Casualty Management, Public Health Services in Evacuation Centers, and Response Operations Monitoring and Post Incident Evaluation.

All La Union delegates and trainees actively participated in the activities and exercises given during the sessions and were able to complete all training requirements which are vital to their role as key players in Disaster and Emergency Response.

The training was also attended by delegates from DOH - Center for Health Development 1, Dagupan City Health Office, Dagupan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Conrado F. Estrella Regional Medical and Trauma Center and National Patient Navigation and Referral Center- One Hospital Command Center.

DOH-HEMB Officer-in-Charge and Director IV, Dr. Arnel Z. Rivera, FDAFP, MHA, IDHA attended the graduation of the trainees and reiterated in his message the importance of the HERO Training Course in the fulfillment of their respective duties and responsibilities as Health Emergency and Disaster Operations Managers.

The Provincial Government of La Union through the PHO, PDRRMO, and Hospitals will continue to strengthen its #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan with other agencies involved in Health Emergency and Disaster Response, with focus on human resource capacitation, to ensure the protection of the health, safety and security of every Kaprobinsiaan for a #StrongerLaUnion, a province worth living in.
