Paving way for the promotion of La Unionโs vision to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the La Union Provincial Library (LUPL), hosted the 4th Convention of Provincial Libraries in the Philippines held on November 9-11, 2022 at Puerto de San Juan Beach Resort Hotel, San Juan, La Union.
Bearing the theme, Nock. Draw. Loose., the three-day convention, conducted in partnership with the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), aims to empower public librarians in asserting the importance of their roles and responsibilities in giving information through library services to their respective communities.
Through a recorded video message, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica โRafyโ Ortega-David welcomed the provincial librarians in the beautiful province of La Union. She likewise gave emphasis on the importance of their roles as stewards of the libraries bearing the key responsibility of safekeeping the instruments used to obtain knowledge and insights.
โKayo po ang aming mga kasangga sa paglilinang ng kaalaman ng ating mga mamamayan. Through you, and through the libraries, we can achieve a province, and a country full of knowledgeable Kaprobinsiaan and kababayan. Kaya naman nais ko po ulit kayong paalalahanan na pahalagahan natin ang inyong responsibilidad bilang mga librarian,โ Gov. Rafy said.
Various lectures and activities were conducted and prepared by outstanding and reliable Learning Service Providers such as Mr. Roilingel Calilung of the University of Assumptions; Mr. Chad Aren E. Diaz and Ms. Julia Ann Dominique San Esteban of the NLP; Mr. Michael A. Pinto of the Cagayan Provincial Learning and Resource Center; and La Union Provincial Budget Officer Ms. Catherine E. Franco.
For better and more effective library services, some librarians did not hesitate to share their best practices that other provincial libraries might want to adopt in their respective provinces.
To further strengthen partnership and camaraderie among the participants, the PGLU and LUPL arranged a Governorโs Night and Agri-Tourism Tour around the First district of La Union which they all loved and appreciated.
As the LUPL continues to evolve and improve as the knowledge center of the province, the PGLU continues to look forward to more dynamic linkages, partnerships, and #LaUnionPROBINSYANihan between NLP, other public libraries, and stakeholders that would lead to excellent learning services and provision of additional resources for the kaprobinsiaan.
