Committed to strengthen the delivery of quality primary healthcare services in the Province, the Provincial Government of La Union through the Provincial Health Office (PHO), spearheaded the conduct of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, and Nutrition (MNCHN) Diagnostic Workshop to the healthcare service providers from the second district on September 14, 2022 at the La Union Medical Center Conference Room, Agoo, La Union.

A total of 19 Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC)-trained service providers from the different Rural Health Units and District Hospitals participated and upskilled in the activity as part of the first 100 days commitment of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David.

The four-day workshop aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the healthcare service providers on MNCHN and assess their capacity and ability in the delivery of healthcare services in their respective municipalities.

One of the objectives highlighted during the training is to contribute to the reduction of maternal and neonatal morbidities and mortalities in La Union.

The facilitators evaluated the performance of each participants which centered on prenatal care; actual delivery and postpartum care for the mother; and postnatal care for the baby; the utilization of the following quality improvement tools which includes the work environment, knowledge and skills assessment, and objective structured competency evaluation (OSCE) strategy. These aforementioned tools will assess the competence of the healthcare service providers through the integration of their knowledge, clinical, and communication skills in the delivery of medical services.

PHO plans to expand the conduct of training on the succeeding months to cover the other healthcare facilities in the province.
