To promote and develop creativity and self expression of young children in the province, a 5-day Kiddie Art and Crafts Summer Class was initiated by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) on August 5 & 8 -11, 2022 at the PGLU Employees Child Development Center.

Participated by some children and grandchildren of the Provincial Government of La Union Employees ages 5-16 years old, the said activity is part of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica โ€œRafyโ€ Ortega-Davidโ€™s P.U.S.O. Agenda in promoting childhood development through arts and crafts.

The workshop was very timely for this was done during the childrenโ€™s school break allowing them to be productive while gaining fun memories and new friends.

Kiddie Arts and Crafts Summer Class facilitator and PSWDO Child Development Worker Ms. Lerma L. Navarro said that by doing art and crafts, it can help children boost their self-esteem and practice important areas of their development such as motor skills, literacy, creativity and problem solving skills.

โ€œCreativity allows childrenโ€™s self-expression and manage their feelings. It also fosters mental growth by providing opportunities for trying out new ideas, new ways of thinking and problem-solving, develop fine motor skills, patience, concentration, planning and foresight and organizational skills, hence, it is really important for this children to be exposed in such activities as they discover their interests and potentialsโ€, Teacher Lerma said.

The kids unleashed their creativity and enjoyed working with their various origami projects which gave them a sense of achievement, pride and confidence with their outputs. Aside from art activities, indoor games were also conducted to bond the kids together. Certificates of participation were provided to the children as appreciation of their accomplishments.

Gov. Rafy, in her recorded video message, congratulated the participants for completing their 5-day summer class and even encouraged the parents and guardians to keep supporting their children.

โ€œI would also like to give gratitude to our dear parents and guardians for allowing their children to be part of this activity and for believing in their great potential. I hope that you continue to support and inspire them to dream big and be a responsible citizen in the futureโ€, Gov. Rafyโ€™s encouragement.

The Provincial Government of La Union enjoins the kaprobinsiaan in #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan in empowering youth and promoting the welfare, interests and development of the youth, the future of our beloved province of La Union.
