The people of Bacnotan, La Union are looking forward for the water quality improvement of their coastal and freshwater resources after Governor Raphaelle Veronica βRafyβ Ortega-David and Mayor Divine Fontanilla led the groundbreaking ceremony of the soon-to-rise Septage Treatment Plant in Bacnotan to be located in Brgy. Bacsil on August 22, 2022.
The septage treatment project aims to have an access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for the people. Further, it targets water quality improved by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials and halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse.
Most importantly, the establishment of the said treatment facility in La Union is aligned to the Philippine Health Agenda for 2016 to 2022 dubbed as βAll for Health Towards Health for allβ in providing improved access to sanitation facilities and reduction of water-borne diseases resulting to enhanced environmental health and sanitation situation.
Mayor Fontanilla expressed her gratitude for the collaboration project between the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) and LGU Bacnotan. In her message, she reminded everyone of their vital role as natureβs stewards to take actions in protecting the environment to ensure the future generation will have a better place to live in. With this Septage Treatment Plant project, she imparted its significance in terms of access to safe and clean water and proper sanitation for every households and for the future generation.
Gov. Rafy also expressed her support to the project. βAng pagsisimula ng proyektog ito ay simbolo ng malasakit at pagmamahal sa inyo ng Provincial Government. Batid naming na malaking kaginhawaan po ang maidudulot nito sa inyong lahat lalo na sa waste management and disposal. Mas magiging environment-friendly na po ang inyong lugar at hindi na makokompromiso ang inyong kalusugan sa posibleng sakit na dulot ng hindi maayos na waste treatment,β she said.
Also present to witness the groundbreaking ceremony were Engr. Ressie Estrella of the Provincial Engineering Office; EnP Annalyn Rosario-Valdez, Officer-in-Charge of the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office; Engr. Warly Mahusay of BNS-BORDA Philippines; LGU Bacnotan Department Heads; and Officials of Barangay Bacsil.
As champion of safe and clean water, this collaboration project between PGLU and LGU-Bacnotan is indeed a manifestation of our love for La Union and for the environment through #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan, with the goal of building a Stronger La Union, a Province worth living-in.
