Being among the most positive way to help someone in need and in observance of the World Blood Donation Day, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Provincial Health Office (PHO), conducted today, June 14, 2022, a bloodletting activity held in PG-ENRO Conference Room, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.

In line with this yearโ€™s World Blood Donor Day theme โ€œDonating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save livesโ€, the PGLU bloodletting activity aims to provide information and message to the kaprobinsiaan and draw attention to the role of voluntary blood donation in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.

A total of 86 courageous and noble volunteers showed up to participate in the said event. 80 turned out as successful donors while 6 were deferred due to either low blood pressure, lack of sleep or recently taken medications. Aside from PGLU employees, donors came from different regional and provincial line agencies such as Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Environmental Management Bureau, Civil Service Commission, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Philippine Information Agency. National Basketball League players from team La Union PAOwer and college students from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University also came to donate blood.

All collected blood donations will be turned-over to La Union Medical Center, the Provincial Blood Bank of La Union. Their Blood Bank Section Head Mr. Rudolf R. Gongora, RMT was elated with the turnout of the activity and expressed his gratitude to the PGLU, PHO, volunteers and donors.

Likewise, the PHO, through their Medical Technologist II and Provincial Blood Coordinator Ms. Jonalyn V. Fernandez, gave appreciation to everyone and encouraged all kaprobinsiaan to donate blood if possible. โ€œI would like to thank everyone who came and donated a part of themselves. With your donations we could save more lives and give them another chance to live. I hope that you continue doing such selfless act for us to collect and store more in our blood bank facilities for it is our vision that no person will be begging for donations in case of an emergency and urgency because it will be readily available for them,โ€ Fernandez said with hope and optimism.

Moreso, to encourage more kaprobinsiaan in donating blood, she mentioned some beneficial factors for donors, โ€œBlood donation doesnโ€™t just benefit recipients. There are health benefits for donors, too, on top of the benefits that come from helping others. It aids in oneโ€™s blood circulation through stimulating the production of new blood cells which keeps the body healthy and work more efficiently.โ€

The PGLU remains committed in its effort to increase awareness and intensify blood donation activities in the province for easier access and timely supply of safe and quality blood and blood products in the province to help those in need and save lives.
