The Provincial Government of La Union and representatives from the Department of Health - Center for Health and Development Region 1 (DOH-CHR I), Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) La Union Provincial Office and District Hospitals in the Province convened for a consultative and coordination meeting on May 4, 2022 at the PG-ENRO Conference Room, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The main objective of the meeting is to establish the unification of Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support (SFA-BLS) Training for Rescue Responders and First Aid Providers in La Union. Further, the meeting calls to develop strategies on the conduct of SFA-BLS and other Disaster and Emergency Response related trainings across the province.

Some open or unresolved issues during the previous consultative meeting last month was also discussed such as Development of Training Database and Dashboard; Accreditation and Certification of New Trainers and Trainees; and Status of the Establishment of Satellite Emergency Operations Center in District Hospitals. Deliberation and further discussions on the recently-concluded PGLU earthquake drill also took place in the meeting.

Present during the said meeting were Provincial Health Officers Dr. Eduardo S. Posadas and Dr. Dan William Y. Dacanay along with Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health (DRRM-H) Manager Sheherazade B. Macusi, and Infectious Diseases Coordinator Katrina E. Gallema of the Provincial Health Office; Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officeโ€™s LDRRMO and Training Unit Head David Ken Salamanca and Christine Paulette Navarro, Nurse I; Dr. Joseph Mannix F. Galimba, DRRM-H Manager and Claire Fonbuena, Chief Nurse of La Union Medical Center; Dr. Ryan R. Difuntorum, DRRM-H Manager of Rosario District Hospital; Dr. Elaine de Guzman, DRRM-H Manager of Balaoan Distyrict Hospital; and Jeffrey Julian, DRRM-H Manager of Bacnotan District Hospital. Also in attendance from other agencies were Dr. Marvin F Munar, DRRM-H Manager of ITRMC; Dr. Rick Jenssen Mateo, DOH-CHD 1 Health Emergency Management Staff (HEMS) Coordinator; and Vortex Palabay of TESDA La Union.

With the said meeting, the PGLU is looking forward for the enhancement and strengthening of the province's Health Care Provider Network (HCPN) that shall aid in achieving the institutionalization of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health Program in all levels of governance in La Union.
