Competing with the world's best surfers, La Union's Rogelio "Jay-R" Esquivel dominated the men's longboard event during the World Surfing League La Union International Pro held at Urbiztondo Beach, San Juan, La Union on January 20-26, 2023.
Representing the Philippines and the province, the 26-year-old pride of La Union emerged victorious after displaying an excellent performance in the final round.
The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), led by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David, proudly commends the achievement of Esquivel. As the province continues to develop itself as a major surfing destination and a host of international caliber events, the PGLU will continue to build initiatives and create avenues that empowers local surfers which in turn, not only boosts the tourism industry but also keeps us at pace to become the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
