As an aid to protect and preserve marine environment in the province, and to provide livelihood opportunities to the fisher folks in Luna, La Union, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) and Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) in partnership with Local Government Unit of Luna conducted artificial reefs deployment on February 10 and 11, 2023 at Brgy. Nalvo Norte, Luna, La Union

The installation of artificial reefs helps provide supplementary stable substrate in barren and unproductive areas for coral settlement and growth as well as supplemental habitat for reef fishes and other marine flora and fauna.

In a long run, the artificial reefs will serve as breeding grounds for fishes and other marine resources that will boost fish production leading to livelihood opportunities and food security for the kaprobinsiaan which contributes to the economic status of the province.

Gov. Raphaelle Veronica β€œRafy” Ortega-David fully supports the sustainability of the project for it gives inclusive development to improve the quality of life of our kaprobinsiaans and to enhance diversity in the coastal areas of the province as we step closer to the attainment of our vision to be the Heart of Agri-tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
