The Province of La Union has taken a step in ensuring the safety of public and motorists as the 23rd Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP)invited Dir. Glorioso Daniel Z. Martinez, the newly appointed Regional Director of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) – Region I, to be their resource speaker on road safety during the 50h Regular Session on June 13, 2023.
Dir. Martinez stressed to the SP the shared responsibility of road safety among all kaprobinsiaan and motorists. As the new director of LTO Region 1, he expressed his commitment to strengthening partnerships and collaboration, particularly with the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) and its "Kalsada" Program under the Committee on Public Works and Utilities. He stressed the need for concerted efforts from Local Government Units in reducing road accidents and ensuring the motoring public's safety.
Various concerns were raised by the Vice-Governor and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members regarding traffic rules, road practices, and safety issues in the province. In response, Dir. Martinez outlined the agency's programs and initiatives to address these concerns. These include the "Creating Advocates for Road Safety" (CARS) project, stricter enforcement of traffic rules and regulations, deputization of police officers and local enforcers, and road site inspections to tackle smoke-belching vehicles.
Furthermore, Dir. Martinez informed the session about the adoption of the Electronic Temporary Operator's Permit (eTOP) system, simplifying the process of issuing traffic violation citations and verifying the legitimacy of driver's licenses through the Land Transportation Management System.
The SP expressed their gratitude to Dir. Martinez and his team by presenting them with certificates of appreciation.
The session served as a platform to foster #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan between the LTO, PGLU, and the public, and a reminder to all kaprobinsiaan and motorists to prioritize road safety and contribute in creating safer roads and communities in the province.
