Reminding the people of La Union of the sacrifices made by the country's heroes and encouraging the current generation to continue to uphold and protect the independence and sovereignty of the Philippines, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) headed by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David celebrated the 125th Philippine Independence Day, today, June 12, 2023 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, City of San Fernando, La Union with the theme "Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan. (Freedom. Future. History.)"

The event was attended by Vice Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega together with other provincial officials namely: Board Member Cynthia Angelica M. Bacurnay, Board Member Gerard G. Ostrea, Board Member Victor I. Rivera, Board Member Aaron Kyle M. Pinzon and Ex-officio Board Member Pablo C. Ortega, as well as Chief of Hospitals and Department Heads and employees from different district hospitals and PGLU offices.

The celebration began with a flag raising and a wreath-laying ceremony, led by Vice Gov. Ortega together with the Board Members as a symbol of respect and gratitude to the heroes who fought for the country's independence. The theme "Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan" gives focus on the freedom that our forebears struggled for in the future that they dreamed for the country and the history that we seek to remember and honor them with.

On behalf of Gov. Rafy, Vice Gov. Bolunterismo. Pakikipagkapwa-tao. Inisyatibo at aktibong pakikibahagi. Ilan lamang po ito sa mga maaari nating gawin sa ilalim ng tawag ng La Union PROBINSYAnihan. Sa lahat ng ito, umaasa akong lahat tayo, sama-sama, sabay-sabay, pantay-pantay, tungo sa tunay na kasarinlan."

Vice Gov. Mario Ortega also emphasized the privilege of doing things the right way and shared the sense of patriotism that our ancestors have given for our land and country. “I hope that a feeling of patriotism to our country is still burning in our hearts until the next generations to come. That is why, we set ourselves as an example to the young generations so they would also develop a feeling of patriotism to our country and values of freedom and liberty from our forefathers that the country is worth fighting for,” he added. The program culminated with a Community Singing “Bayan Ko.”

With the province’s call for #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan, Independence Day 2023 was a meaningful celebration. Different component local government units also conducted their respective flag raising ceremonies in their respective city and municipalities. The provincial government came together to honor and remember the sacrifices made by the heroes of the past, and to continue to work together for a better and brighter future of the Province of La Union.
