PGLU HONORS LEGACY OF FILIPINO HEROES: PAST AND PRESENT

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the La Union Provincial Tourism Office (LUPTO) – Culture and the Arts Unit commemorated National Heroes’ Day on August 28, 2023 at the Heroes Park, Guerrero Road, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Following the flag-raising, a wreath-laying ceremony is held, paying tribute to the country's fallen heroes. Vice Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega, Ex-Officio Board Member Pablo C. Ortega, Board Member Geraldine “Deny” R. Ortega and Board Member Cynthia Angelica M. Bacurnay led the wreath-laying proper in front of Rizal’s monument. They were joined by Provincial Administrator Agnes Grace A. Cargamento and other PGLU Department Heads and Chiefs of Hospitals.
During the ceremony, LUPTO Values Restoration Officer delivered a heartfelt message, reflecting on the sacrifices of the nation's heroes. In her speech, she acknowledged not just the recognized heroes of history but also the "unnamed heroes” who have fought and shed tears for the nation and its values, and the “unsung heroes” who have shown their "indomitable spirit" and made a "collective sacrifice" to serve their fellow Filipinos.
The theme for this year’s National Heroes’ Day is "Karangalan (Honor). Katungkulan (Duty). Kabayanihan (Heroism)." "Honor" or "Karangalan" signifies the esteem and respect we accord to our national heroes for their extraordinary bravery and sacrifice. It serves as a reminder of the honor they brought to the nation through their heroic deeds. "Duty" or "Katungkulan" reflects the responsibility that each citizen carries towards the nation. Just like our heroes, every citizen has a role to play in the progress and betterment of the country. "Heroism" or "Kabayanihan" encapsulates the spirit of our national heroes. It is a call to every Filipino to embody the same spirit of heroism in their everyday lives, whether it be through small acts of kindness or grand gestures of bravery.
In essence, the theme "Karangalan. Katungkulan. Kabayanihan." serves as a powerful reminder of the values that the nation's heroes stood for and the legacy they left behind. As #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan continues, it is a call to action for every Kaprobinsiaan to uphold these values and carry forward the legacy of our heroes.
