Employees of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) gathered at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, City of San Fernando, La Union on May 23, 2025 to mark this year’s International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, a global event honoring the lives lost to AIDS and advocating for continued support and awareness for people living with HIV.
With the theme "We Remember, We Rise, We Lead," the event served as both a solemn remembrance and a call to action. Participants lit candles in memory of those who have died from AIDS-related illnesses and to show solidarity with individuals currently living with HIV.
A heartfelt message of hope was delivered by Mr. Ronald Kevin Barangot, President of i-ECHO Support Advocacy Inc., who emphasized the importance of compassion, unity, and leadership in the ongoing fight against HIV and AIDS.
Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David also extended her message of support, read by her Executive Assistant Justo “Tito” H. Orros III. In her message, Gov. Rafy reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive La Union for everyone, especially those affected by HIV and AIDS. She expressed hope that the community would continue to come together not only in remembrance but in active pursuit of awareness, education, and care.
The observance also highlighted the importance of safe and responsible sexual practices, as well as the need for regular HIV testing. Knowing one’s status is a vital step in prevention and treatment, and that access to testing and support services remains essential in reducing the spread of HIV.
Through the said gathering, PGLU employees stood in solidarity with people around the globe, carrying forward the message of remembrance and resilience in the face of the HIV.
