The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) granted 80 students with 20 day-employment in the PGLU under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES), starting June 9 to July 7, 2025. This is in line with the Department of Labor and Employment’s mandate to promote decent employment and enhance the employability of the Filipino youth.
SPES, implemented through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), aims to help the poor but deserving students pursue their education while gaining valuable work experience.
Before deployment, PESO Manager Charito C. Dator conducted an orientation for the newly hired SPES workers. She discussed essential topics on office decorum, including proper workplace behavior, appropriate dress code, and communication protocols. The orientation also outlined the roles and responsibilities of SPES workers, program guidelines, and procedures for salary claims. To ensure a smooth start on their first day, the beneficiaries also completed the processing of their employment contracts, participated in an oath-taking ceremony, had their photos and IDs taken, and underwent biometric registration.
Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David welcomed the SPES workers to the Provincial Capitol. She urged the students to work hard, maximize the learning opportunity, and ensure a productive engagement with the provincial government.
SPES, anchored on Republic Act No. 7323, remains a key DOLE initiative that not only provides financial support to students but also serves as a pathway for inclusive economic growth by bridging education with meaningful employment. The PGLU continues to commit its support to the program as it contributes to the career advancement of ELYUcanong Kabataan.
