PGLU EQUIPS EMPLOYEES IN PROMOTING LA UNION

One of the tour guide-aspirants explains the symbols in the Provincial Seal of La Union during their Mock Tour activity at the Provincial Capitol Building, City of San Fernando, La Union on November 16, 2018. The activity is a part of the six-day Community Guiding Seminar for Provincial Government of La Union employees.
With the aim to further promote the tourism destinations in La Union, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) headed by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III, in coordination with Department of Tourism – Region 1 (DOT-R1), conducted a Community Guiding Training Course held at Clique, San Juan, La Union on November 12 – 17, 2018. It was participated in by 31 employees of PGLU.
Mr. Adamor L. Dagang, Provincial Tourism Officer, discussed the various tourism destinations, attractions and activities to give background to the participants of what the province has to offer in terms of tourism. Mr. Modesto “Ding” Baloloy, Chief Tourism Officer of DOT-1 gave an overview of the Tourism Industry and the different Tourism programs and marketing activities.
Local History, Culture, Geography, Flora and Fauna in La Union; Safety and Security Precautions; First Aid and Basic Life Support, among others, were also discussed in the training.
DOT – ASEAN Trainer Mr. Enrique Esguerra, imparted his knowledge on how to manage crisis situation through a role playing exam. He also discussed Practical Guiding Techniques with Tour Guiding Do’s and Don’ts, Tour Guide Code of Ethics and The Role of the Tour Guide.
As part of the training, participants under a mock tour on the last day as a practical application of their learnings.
The newly trained tour guides were encouraged to apply for accreditation and play an important role placing La Union as The Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
