Fifteen kaprobinsiaan beneficiaries from different municipalities of La Union were given an opportunity to provide additional income for their families and livelihood opportunities for their communities after the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), under the leadership of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David, has provided them a total of 25,000 tilapia fingerlings to be used as a start-up for their agri-fishery livelihood, in time for the celebration of this year's Bulan ti Mannalon ken Manngalap.
Honoring the resilience and hardwork of farmers and fishermen in the Province of La Union, the PGLU, through the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), kicks-off the month-long celebration of Bulan ti Mannalon ken Manngalap through a coastal clean-up and distribution of tilapia fingerlings on May 5, 2023 at Agoo, La Union.
The coastal clean-up along the coastline of Agoo Bay Walk was participated in by PGLU employees from OPAg and PG–Environment and Natural Resources Office. The distribution of fingerlings followed with lectures on proper fingerling handling and propagation. Provincial Administrator/OIC – Office of the Provincial Agriculturist Agnes Grace A. Cargamento personally handed over the bags of fingerlings to the beneficiaries.
Bearing the theme, ProbinsyANIHAN: Pasingkedan ti Bileg ken Timpuyog dagiti Mannalon ken Mangngalap, the month-long celebration of Farmers and Fisherfolks Month aims to recognize the kaprobinsiaan in Agri and Fishery Sector on their contribution in food security programs of the province while enabling them to generate additional income for their families and communities towards sustained and enhanced livelihood opportunities.
The PGLU under Gov. Rafy's administration continues to prioritize the needs of farmers and fisherfolks in the province as their sectors are the key players in the realization of La Union being the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
