In line with the province’s hosting of the 2025 Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA), the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), led by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, has taken steps to ensure financial support for student-athletes by securing a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the La Union Schools Division Office (LUSDO) and Department of Education (DepEd) Region I, ensuring adequate funding for the event that will be held on March 10-15, 2025.
Chaired by Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Cynthia Angelica M. Bacurnay, the Committee on Education, Culture, and Arts led a Committee Hearing on February 13, 2025, to ensure transparency in fund allocations. The discussion covered the fund allocation for athletes, venue rentals, room accommodations, transportation, and medical preparedness to safeguard the smooth conduct of the event.
Following the hearing, the Board Committee approved the Resolution No. 107-2025 and Resolution No. 108-2025 authorizing the governor to enter into a MOA between the PGLU, DepEd Region 1, and LUSDO facilitating the financial assistance for the R1AA. The athletes on the other hand, had already started with their training in preparation for the competition.
This initiative reinforces the PGLU’s commitment to supporting the student-athletes, ensuring they have the resources needed to compete at their best. Through emphasizing responsible fund transparency and allocation, the province aims to provide a well-hosted RIAA, reflecting on its dedication to sports development and youth empowerment.
