To ensure readiness in water-related emergencies at any time, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) conducted a five-day Basic Water Rescue with Watercraft Operations Training to 24 volunteers identified by the Local Government of Agoo on February 21-25, 2022 in Agoo, La Union.
To ensure and maintain a quality response of DRRM volunteers, participants were trained on First Aid and Basic Life Support; Incident Command System Introduction; Life Saving Techniques; Swimming Strokes; and Jetski Operations. Actual applications of their learning were done in scenario-based simulation activities where trainers gave rescue experience-based tips and techniques.
Through the training, the PDRRMO was able to capacitate their DRRM counterparts in the local government who are readily available in the vicinity in times of water-related emergencies while they await for rescue augmentation from the province if needed.
โMasaya kaming despite sa existence ng pandemic, natuloy na ulit ang ganitong trainings kung saan naibabahagi namin ang knowledge at skills namin sa kapwa naming emergency responders na nasa community. Kasi kahit pandemic, mayroon pa rin namang emergency situations lalo na sa dagat,โ shared one of the trainers Mr. Rafael Lim.
The Provincial Government of La Union is committed in ensuring a safe constituency by multiplying workforce through capacity building in the local communities. All these to attain a Disaster-Resilient Province by 2025.
