LUMC Raises Cervical Cancer Awareness through Free Screening, Info Dissemination

La Union Medical Center (LUMC) in partnership with the Philippine Society for Cervical Pathology & Colposcopy took part in the nationwide observance of Cervical Cancer Screening Day. The medical center aimed to raise awareness about cervical cancer by providing free screenings and conducting an information dissemination campaign for their patients.
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at LUMC collaborated with the Philippine Society for Cervical Pathology & Colposcopy to offer free pap smear examinations to 42 patients. Additionally, they administered the initial dose of the anti-Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine to 20 LUMC employees.
Expressing his gratitude to the participants, Dr. Glenn Ernest M. Fonbuena, the Chief Executive Officer of LUMC, emphasized the importance of early detection in combating cervical cancer. He acknowledged the significance of such initiatives in saving lives and preventing the spread of this disease.
Alongside the screening activities, a lay forum was organized by the Philippine Society for Cervical Pathology & Colposcopy. The forum aimed to provide LUMC patients with essential information on cervical cancer detection, transmission, and prevention. Through this educational session, attendees had the opportunity to gain knowledge about the disease, its risk factors, and the importance of regular screenings.
