The La Union Medical Center (LUMC) through its Red Orchid Committee, promoted health through arts in celebration of the National Lung Month by conducting activities that highlighted the hospital’s advocacy of fostering awareness on Tuberculosis (TB) and other smoking related issues from August 14-28, 2018 at LUMC, Agoo, La Union.
Six schools in Agoo competed for the Poster Making Contest sponsored by LUMC’s Red Orchid Committee. Revolving on the theme, “LUMC: Siga Laban Sa Yosi,” the 10 participants depicted LUMC’s continuing interventions in the fight against TB and other disease caused by smoking. This activity accomplished its goal in promoting health through arts.
“This is significant for we are in fact learning from these young people. They taught us to become more sensitive on our strategies and approaches so we can better use different approaches in fighting diseases that are caused by smoking,” said, LUMC’s Red Orchid Committee Chairman Dr. Gulivic Tirso S. Aspiras.
Lectures on Smoking and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Tuberculosis Awareness and Antibiotic Use for Respiratory Tract Infections were also done.
The committee, according to LUMC’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Glenn Ernest M. Fonbuena plans to intensify its advocacy activities for strengthening the knowledge and awareness of the employees and its clients and other constituents in the province to support Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III’s Health Reform Agenda and vision of a “Healthy La Union, Happy La Union by 2022.”
