LGUs Leading in Environmental Management Initiatives Recognized

As the Provincial Government of La Union continues to pilot initiatives for a sustainable environment, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David led the conferment of the winners of the Search for the Cleanest, Safest and Greenest (CSG) Local Government Unit (LGU) of La Union for C.Y. 2021 on May 8, 2023 at the Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.

Validated by the CSG-Provincial Search Committee (PSC), the winners for the annual Search for the Cleanest, Safest, and Greenest LGU in the Province of La Union were Naguilian, Bacnotan, and Agoo for the first to third class municipalities, while for the fourth to fifth class municipalities the winners were Santo Tomas, Burgos, Caba, and Santol.

For the Municipal Bodies of Water Coastal Category, the winners were Immuki Island (Balaoan), Urbiztondo Surfing Area (San Juan) and San Carlos Coastal Area (Caba) while in the Fresh Water Category the winners were Bulalakaw Falls (Bagulin), Baroro River (Bacnotan) and Tapuakan River (Pugo).

To recognize the efforts of the different Urban and Rural Brgys, Best Magsidalus iti Arubayan (MIA) Barangay Implementer was included as a category. The winners from the Urban Brgy. were Brgy. Quirino (Bacnotan), Brgy. Gana (Caba) and San Nicolas East (Agoo) and for the Rural Brgy, the winners were Brgy. Ubagan (Sto.Tomas), Up-Uplas (Sudipen) and Brgy. Narra (Bacnotan).

The Search for the Cleanest, Safest, and Greenest LGU aims to mobilize all sectors of the society in transforming and helping their communities into clean, safe, and green areas; promote a venue for people’s participation in community development efforts; and to institutionalize a system of providing recognition to the cleanest local government units throughout the country.

To give recognition to LGU’s accomplishments by attaining best practices/activities in making the environment safer and healthier to live in, cheques were given to all the CSG Winners that will support the implementation of their various environmental management projects primarily address environmental problems such as pollution (air, water and land) and climate change.

Gov. Rafy fully supports the Search for the Cleanest, Safest, and Greenest Project as it is geared towards the attainment of the vision of the province to become the Heart of Agri-tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025 through maintaining the cleanliness of its LGUs and promotion of environmental awareness and protection.
