Aiming to educate and strengthen the skills of service providers and child development workers in the province, the 7th Convention for La Union Service Providers and Child Development Workers was held on April 19 to 21, 2023, at Hotel Supreme Convention Plaza, Baguio City.

The said convention tackled various topics such as mental health and stress management; the role of Barangay Council for the Protection of Children in Local Governance and in Early Childhood Care and Development; and a Recap on RA 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Their Children and how to handle such cases.

Among the highlights of the event was the recognition of 197 Early Childhood Care and Development service providers with long service. These service providers were recognized for their exemplary contribution and passion in providing holistic development for children ages 3-4 years.

One of the awardees, who had served for 42 years, was recognized for the longest uninterrupted volunteer service rendered, truly a milestone that garnered admiration and respect from attendees.

Newly elected officers of the La Union Day Care Workers Association Incorporated were also inducted.

In her message, Governor Rapahelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David highly acknowledged the Child Development Workers on their immeasurable dedication and commitment in molding and teaching the children and youth sector.

"Special po ang mga roles ninyo sa ating mga younger generation dahil kayo po, kasama ng kanilang mga magulang, ang taga-hulma ng kanilang mga murang pag-iisip at gumagabay papunta sa tamang landas. Kumbaga sa isang puno, kayo po ay maituturing na mga ugat, ang sanhi ng pag-usbong ng mga estudyante na sa mga susunod na taon ay makikilala, mangunguna at irerespeto sa kanilang mga pipiliing larangan," Gov. Rafy's message.

Through the convention, the service providers and child development workers were able to gain vital insights, knowledge, and skills to deliver quality service and holistically cater to the needs of young children in La Union.

Moreover, this event showed that the province and its service providers continue to take significant strides forward in promoting the welfare and development of its children — one of the goals that the province is continually achieving as it becomes the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
