LA UNION PARTNERS WITH HALINA KA-KLASE IN ENHANCING BASIC EDUCATION

The Province of La Union headed by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, strengthened the provision of basic education to its young citizenry through its partnership with Halina Ka-klase (HKK) Philippines in initiating the HKK Edukartyun: One Day, One Community Literacy Program held on May 27, 2023 at the PDRRMO Training Center in Sevilla, City of San Fernando, La Union.

A total of 100 pupils aged 6-9 years old participated in various activities laid by HKK, which centered on Arts, Literature, Philippine culture and Filipino and English proficiency. The kids were grouped into four classes composed of 25 students and two HKK volunteers. Each pupil received a lunchbox, HKK workbook, hygiene kit and snack.

The said venture was done in collaboration with Joyful Gives Inc. founded by 1st District Board Member Joy Ortega and Kumusta Kabsat Organization (KKO). For this batch, Sevilla Elementary School was the chosen beneficiary.

Eight young HKK volunteers from various parts of the country graced the event. Representing La Union were Ms Olivia Gidaya, BM Joy Ortega’s daughter and founder of KKO and Ms. Charlize Milan Co Ortega, daughter of City of San Fernando Vice Mayor Alfred R. Ortega.

BM Joy Ortega, in her speech, highlighted how inspired she is with the efforts of HKK volunteers in becoming agents of change and developing communities at their young age. She expressed her excitement in partnering with these empowered youth in spreading joy in the next activities of HKK.

Gov. Rafy graced the event and she commended the collaborative efforts of HKK, Joyful Gives Inc. and Kumusta Kabsat in spearheading activities like Edukartyun which promote quality education and #LaUnionProbinsiyanihan. She further encouraged the children to study hard for a better future and for a more progressive and #StrongerLaUnion.

Highlighting the event was the ceremonial turnover of the “Edukartyon” to Sevilla Elementary School.

School principal Mr. Arturo Quiban, Jr. expressed his gratitude on behalf of the learners, parents and teachers. He commended the activities provided by HKK and partner organizations because it served as an extension of the learning growth and development that the kids are undertaking in school. “As we can see it, the learners had so much fun and really enjoyed the activities. We were surprised for the provision of edukartyon with books. It is very relevant since the school is promoting love for reading and improving the literacy and numeracy skills of our learners,” he said.

HKK Philippines is non-profit organization founded and headed by a Junior Year student at Everest International Academy Ms. Patricia Anne D. Arnaiz, that aims to augment and enhance basic education to children in developing areas in the Philippines that makes use of “karitons” (pushcarts) filled with various learning materials that engage children in expounding their knowledge and understanding contemporary issued our world is facing today.
