LA UNION ARTIST BAGS 3RD PRIZE IN THE 2018 GSIS NATIONAL ART COMPETITION

Local artist of La Union, Mr. Rodel Rillera (5th from left, 1st row), receives a trophy and cash prize worth Php100,000 by garnering the 3rd Prize during the Awards Night of 2018 Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) National Art Competition on June 8, 2018 at the GSIS Theater, GSIS Building, Financial Center, Pasay City.

Local artist of La Union, Mr. Rodel Rillera, bags 3rd Prize in the 2018 Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) National Art Competition. He received his award during the Awarding Night of said competition held on June 8, 2018 at the GSIS Theater, GSIS Building, Financial Center, Pasay City.

Upon the launching of the event, Mr. Rillera who was hopeful to give La Union the honor and pride, decided to submit an entry for the Nonrepresentational Category (Abstract) and the painting was entitled “No Coal in Elyu” which connotes environmental responsibility in the province of La Union. Successfully, he garnered the 3rd Place bringing home a trophy and a cash prize worth Php100,000. He also became a finalist twice in previous GSIS National Art Competitions.

Mr. Rodel Rillera is a local of City of San Fernando, La Union, who has staged several exhibitions both in the country and abroad. His remarkable talent in abstract painting gained him numerous awards and recognitions. He is currently the Vice President of the Arts Guild of La Union (AGLAUN), an organization earnestly committed to bring the value and beauty of arts in the province.

Now on its 14th year, the 2018 GSIS Art Competition is regarded as one of the biggest and most anticipated visual art competitions in the country. The annual contest showcases the creativity of local and emerging artists from which future art masters may arise.

Also a finalist for the Representational Category in the same event is Mr. Ralph Gabriel Gane and his painting was entitled “Payong, Kaibigan.” Mr. Gane is also a local artist from La Union.

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) headed by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III, supports all activities of AGLAUN and other Cultural and Artists Group to further develop culture, arts and tourism in La Union.
