Quick strategizing. Strong stamina. Unbeatable Teamwork. The Hundred Islands National Park in Alaminos City, Pangasinan was a witness to the collaboration of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) and the City Government of Alaminos to safeguard citizens and tourists as the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) La Union conducted Water Search and Rescue with Rescue Watercraft Operations (Jetski) for responders from June 5-9, 2023.
A total of 23 participants from Alaminos City's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Bantay Dagat, Bureau of Fire Protection - Alaminos City, and Philippine National Police - Alaminos City Police Station successfully completed the five-day rigorous training.
Being among the few local government units nationwide that operate a jetski for emergency response, PGLU was Alaminos City's preferred trainers to maximize the use of their emergency response assets and for their training on water rescue.
The upskilling was conducted through physical training and lectures on lifesaving, swimming strokes, lock and release, art of searching, disaster management, knot tying, jetski operation and sled management which were later on applied through hands-on lifesaving techniques exercises. The last day of the training served as evaluation of all their learnings through a written examination and rescue simulation exercise of boat collision with multiple casualty where participants formed a team to execute a full rescue operation.
Alaminos City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Assistant Department Head Alvin Contreras expressed the City's gratitude to Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David and the PGLU and committed for stronger ties with a common goal of safeguarding the community.
