The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Training Institute Regional Field Office 1 (DA-ATI RFO 1), successfully concluded the Farmers Field School (FFS) on Corn Production Management.
The 16-week comprehensive training program culminated in the graduation of 64 corn farmers – 30 from the Balaoan Nursery in Balaoan, La Union, and 34 from Rullumas Farm in Sta. Rita West, Aringay, La Union.
The FFS is a capacity-building initiative designed to equip farmers with cutting-edge agricultural knowledge and practical skills. It emphasizes sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices through hands-on training and field demonstrations. Participants gained valuable experience in crop production, pest management, soil health improvement, and efficient resource utilization.
The program’s culmination was highlighted by a graduation ceremony where participants proudly showcased their learning outcomes and shared personal experiences. The event was graced by DA-ATI RFO 1’s Dr. Maricel D. Dacapias and Ms. Jeimelie C. Constantino, Provincial Agriculturist Sharon A. Viloria, and staff from the local government units, all of whom congratulated the graduates for a job well done.
With enhanced knowledge in corn production, the farmer graduates are better equipped to help strengthen the LUcal corn industry. Under the leadership of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, the PGLU continues to promote innovation and learning in the agricultural sector. More farmers are expected to be trained in diverse farming practices in the future – boosting productivity for food security, advancing sustainability, and paving the way toward La Union being the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon.
