The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) warmly welcomed representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment - La Union Field Office (DOLE-LUFO) during a surprise monitoring visit on June 24, 2025, to assess the implementation of the Government Internship Program (GIP) and the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) among beneficiaries assigned to various PGLU offices.

Leading the site inspection was DOLE-LUFO representative Engr. Celine Joy Duclayan, who was accompanied by personnel from the Public Employment Service Office - La Union (PESO-La Union). Engr. Duclayan personally interacted with the interns and student workers to check on their status and performance. She encouraged them to maximize the work opportunity by embracing their roles and focusing on skill-building within their assigned offices. She also observed that they demonstrated a commendable level of professionalism, adaptability, and eagerness to learn under the two programs.

GIP intern Josh Ringor shared his appreciation for the guidance provided by his colleagues, saying, “I am grateful to have mentors here… who guide me in order to finish my assigned tasks.” He also expressed the value he gained from the experience and collaboration within the office.

Supervisors, such as Supervising Administrative Officer Vicky Almazan from the Provincial Assessor’s Office, highlighted how many GIP and SPES workers quickly adapted to office protocols and displayed initiative in completing their duties. These observations reflect positively on their academic preparation and the overall effectiveness of the program in molding work-ready youth.

For 2025, the PGLU has successfully hired 80 students under SPES and 11 first-time job seekers under the GIP. This initiative underscores the province's continued commitment to uplifting the youth by helping them grow into capable members of La Union’s future workforce.
