To raise awareness on prevention, control and elimination of rabies in the community, Animal Bite Treatment Center Medical Coordinator and Provincial Medical Officer III Dr. Diana Jean Escalo, conducted a lecture on Animal Bite Treatment at the of the Naguilian District Hospital (NDH) Outpatient Department.

Dr. Escalo thoroughly discussed the viral disease caused by Rabies including its signs and symptoms and immediate treatment when bitten by a rabies-carrier animal. She also stressed to avoid common practices in treating animal bite such as sucking the wound by your mouth, application of any foreign material over the wound and resorting to โ€œtandokโ€ instead of getting vaccines.

During the lecture, Dr. Escalo stressed important points on RA 9482 or โ€œThe Anti Rabies Act of 2007โ€ and reminded everyone to be a responsible pet owner.

She also reminded the patients to treat any potential exposure to rabies seriously.
