La Union Braces for SUMVAC, Semana Santa; Scales up Emergency, Tourism Preparedness

To ensure La Union’s emergency and tourist handling preparedness under the intensified call for #AlertoKaprobinsiaan this Summer Vacation (#SUMVAC) and #SemanaSanta, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David directed Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) offices to conduct practical measures to ensure constituent and tourist safety.

As the Regional Peace and Order Council Chairperson, Gov. Rafy has also activated agencies in charge of peace and order and called for the coming together of all, “I hope that our tourists and locals will also do their part para ma-maintain po yung peace and order po natin dito, it’s not just yung mga peace and order units po natin, but it is also the responsibility of our constituents to maintain yung order po ng kani-kanilang lugar.”

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) conducted a three-day refresher training course on Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support with physical fitness and water activities to their lifeguard-personnel to enhance their knowledge and skills. A total of 22 PDRRMO lifeguards which includes six new members underwent the training on April 1-3, 2023 at La Union Peace and Order Emergency Operation Center Training Hall and in San Francisco Beach Area, City of San Fernando, La Union. The activity ended with a beach clean-up from barangay Canaoay to San Agustin, City of San Fernando, La Union.

Meanwhile, the La Union Provincial Tourism Office have coordinated with local government units (LGUs) and tourism-related establishments where they will establish five Tourism Assistance Desks for identified major tourist destinations for better assistance to tourists. The desks will be established at Baluarte Watchtower in Luna; Tangadan Falls in San Gabriel; Urbiztondo Beach in San Juan; Grape Farm in Bauang; and Agoo Eco Park in Agoo. The establishment of Tourism Assistance Desks will also be an avenue for the conduct of La Union Wonders and Adventure, Visitor Experience Survey or (LU WAVES) to serve as data for improved tourist experience. The La Union PasaLUbong Center with its own Tourism Assistance Desk is also open from 9AM to 6PM to cater to tourists needs.

The PDRRMO remains to be on Red Alert and will be deploying roving and stationed medical and emergency teams to augment responders in places with expected high foot traffic such as beaches, churches and malls in all LGUs. All PGLU frontline offices are also activated and ready to provide health and emergency services this SUMVAC and Semana Santa.

Gov. Rafy calls for #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan in ensuring the safety of everyone while bracing for better tourism experiences this upcoming long weekend, all these lead to the vision to position La Union as the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
