La Union Wanders, Culture Radiate as Showcased in SILAW Street Dance Competition

A spectacular display of colorful, bright, and illuminating costumes and props showcasing La Union’s story, culture and products took the spotlight in this year's SILAW - Sparkling Images of La Union Agri-Tourism Wanders: La Union Parade of Lights Street Dancing Competition and Dance Showdown.

On March 10, 2023, kaprobinsiaan gathered in Poro Point Baywalk in San Fernando City, La Union to witness the amazing talents and performances of Street Dancers from all over the province.

The said competition has two categories, LGU Category and Open Category. In both categories, group performers must showcase La Union’s local products, customs, and traditions in their costumes, props, and dance routines which shall form part of the performance's key storyline.

After all performances and careful deliberation, winners were chosen for each category. Bacnotan’s Tawid nga Balitok shown the brightest as they were hailed Champion for the LGU Category. Bacuit National High School from Bauang and San Fernando City Street Dancers bagged the 1st and 2nd Runner-up, respectively. Meanwhile, the energetic and cheerful performance of Brgy. Poro Dancers made them top the Open Category followed by BHC Raniag Dancers and Rainbow Youth Club.

Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David also expressed her excitement with the comeback of the iconic founding anniversary activity. In her message delivered by Vice Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega, the lady governor also mentioned that this year’s Ayat Fest is jampacked with fun activities as a way of giving back to the kaprobinsiaan for their continued efforts and support towards the attainment of La Union’s vision to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.

“Maraming salamat po sainyong pagpunta, at higit lalo sa inyong patuloy na pakikipag La Union PROBINSYAnihan,” Gov. Rafy’s final message for the crowd.

This year’s SILAW is a manifestation that the province remains bright despite setbacks, and shall even radiate brighter with the support, #Ayat and continues #LaUnionPROBISYAnihan of each Kaprobinsiaan.
