To bring hope and promote inclusivity among the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) in the province, First District Board Member and Committee Chair on Justice and Human Rights Jennifer C. Mosuela-Fernandez spearheaded the distribution of food packs to the inmates of La Union during a public consultation held last January 24, 2023, at the La Union Provincial Jail, Brgy. Pias City of San Fernando, La Union.

In a speech delivered by Hon. Mosuela-Fernandez, she affirmed her support to the inmates and shared a few interventions that include subsistence, medical aid, and addressing their concerns to ensure their welfare and security.

โ€œThe issues on health and welfare should be addressed considering the conditions of the detainees inside the jails which really needs reformโ€, Mosuela-Fernandez said.

BM Jen added that the aforementioned consultation would be of great help in improving the quality of life of every inmate even if they were in jail as they are considered constituents of the province and as part of the community.

โ€œFrom now on, the Province will conduct yearly consultations with PDLs so that we will know their concerns and know their comments and suggestions, what their needs are and how we can be of help to them,โ€ she stressed.

Hon. Chary P. Nisce, Hon. Joy Ortega, Hon. Cynthia Bacurnay, Hon. Alyssa Sibuma, and Officers from the SP Secretariat and Provincial Legal Office also attended the dialogue. They assured that through PDL's cooperation and the PGLU's support, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of La Union would craft legislation that would benefit their sector.

Provincial Warden Rimas Calixto also presented his officeโ€™s present accomplishments and plans for the Provincial Jail.

In the spirit of #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan, the Provincial Government of La Union led by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David continues its commitment to provide support and develop opportunities to the PDLs in the province through the implementation of the different relevant programs that would ensure their well-being.
