To further capacitate first responders in times of disaster and emergency, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office conducted First Aid and Basic Life Support (FABLS) Training on February 16-18, 2022 in Santo Tomas, La Union.
A total of 43 participants from transport groups, Sangguniang Kabataan, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Member Agency has completed the training.
Among the FABLS discussions during the training were Shock, Soft Tissue Injuries, Burns, Bandaging Techniques for Bone, Joint, Muscle Injury; Immobilization Techniques; Spine Board Management; Poisoning; Environmental Emergencies; Nose Bleeding; Patient Handling; Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation; and Foreign Body Obstruction Management. Hands on application of the topics learned were also conducted for better recall.
While the PGLU ensures 24-hour availability and readiness of rescue and response through the 911 emergency hotline in the province, it also recognizes the crucial role of first responders who are more likely available in the area. Thus, trainings such as these are essential in building resilience in the province.
