The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through its Provincial Health Office (PHO), successfully conducted the Malaria Border Operation (MBO) in Barangays Sinapangan Sur in Balaoan, San Fernmin in Caba, Polipol and Balballayang in San Gabriel and Sta. Rita West, Agoo, on May 20-21, May 23, May 27-28 and May 30-31, respectively.

The MBO aimed to determine the presence of malaria vectors and enhance the skills of Sanitation Inspectors in Basic Entomology. This initiative also aligns with Dengue Awareness Month, which focuses on preventing mosquito-borne diseases as the rainy season approaches.

The activities conducted during the MBO included scouting of the designated areas to identify potential breeding sites, collecting adult mosquitoes for testing to determine the presence of malaria vectors, and holding Information, Education, and Communication sessions to educate kaPROBINSYAnihan on the signs, symptoms, prevention, and control measures for Dengue, Chikungunya, and Leptospirosis. Additionally, community members were informed about the standards and practices of basic sanitation services, and samples of mosquito larvae and pupae were collected and identified.

The MBO benefited 302 households in Balaoan, 299 households in Caba, 341 households in San Gabriel and 231 households in Agoo, helping to ensure the health and safety of these communities.

Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David expressed her full support for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of La Union PROBINSYAnihan in safeguarding public health.

The PGLU remains committed to promoting public health and preventing disease outbreaks through continuous education, vigilance, and proactive measures.
