In recognition to the vital role of Civil Society Organizations in participatory governance, the 23rd Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) conferred the certificates of accreditation to 121 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Peoples Organizations (POs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Cooperatives, Indigenous Peoples and other private sector groups during its 11th Regular Session on September 13, 2022.
The SP Committee on Peopleโs Organizations, Non-Government Organizations and Indigenous Peoples, led by Vice-Chair, and Acting Chair BM Ruperto A. Rillera Jr. evaluated the applications for accreditation of the 141 CSOs, POs, NGOs, as of September 6, 2022. However, only 121 have complied with the requirements for accreditation set forth in the Local Government Code of 1991, DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2022-083 or the โGuidelines on the Accreditation of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Selection of Representatives to the Local Special Bodies (LSBs) and Provincial Ordinance No. 314-2021 entitled โAdopting the Guidelines in the Accreditation of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the Province of La Union.โ
Among the accredited CSOs, NGOs, POs were organizations from various sectors which include farmers, fisherfolks, cooperatives, business, professionals, women, youth, labor, transportation, senior citizens, charitable groups, peace and order, education, health and persons with disabilities.
CSOs, NGOs and POs accreditation is still ongoing. Interested CSOs may apply and submit the needed requirements at the Office of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
Elected CSO Officers and Representatives will become members of the provinceโs local special bodies and active partners of the province in policy formulation as well as in planning and implementation of programs, projects and policies in the fulfillment of #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan towards the welfare of every kaprobinsiaan and for a stronger La Union, a province worth living in.
