With the collaborative effort of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) and the La Union Day Care Workers Association, Incorporated (LUDCWAI), 575 child development service providers from the province convened in the 6th Provincial Convention for La Union Service Providers and Child Development on April 20-22, 2022 at Hotel Supreme Convention Plaza, Baguio City.
Aligned with the theme โPandemya: Hindi Handlang sa Paghubog sa Bata Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasanโ the face-to-face convention was organized to recognize the significant roles of Child Development Workers and other stakeholders as frontliners in Early Childhood Care and Development of children.
An active and meaningful speaker-attendees participation was observed during the plenary sessions and were timely with the on-going validation of the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) and Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) where one of the indicators is on Capability Building of Barangay and Municipal Council for the Protection of Children members.
On the first day of the convention, Pastors Gary Ariz and Richillen Ariz of the Inter-faith based Sector welcomed the participants with a very comforting discussion on "Healing of the Heart". On the second day, Provincial Social Welfare Development Officer Ranilo Ipac lectured on Barangay Council for the Protection of Children and Early Childhood Care and Development while PCpt. Arcellie Pang-ag of the Philippines National Police shared her notes on Ako, โIkaw at ang VAWCโ. Ingrid Ira M. Ignacio, MLGOO II of the Department of the Interior and Local Government Region 1 talked about the โChild-Friendly Local Governance and Laws on Children.โ Lastly, Ms. Sharon Fontanilla, Nurse III of Provincial Health Office discussed โMental Health: Managing the Stress in Youโ
Ms. Vini Nola A. Ortega, Chairperson of La Union Vibrant Women Incorporated (LUVWI) graced the activity as the Keynote Speaker, along with Ms. Raphaella Ortega-David, LUVWI San Fernando City Chapter President. Their presence made this yearโs convention special as they delivered their messages acknowledging the challenges encountered by the day care and child development providers in delivering their duties during the pandemic. They also gave them gratitude and encouragement to continue what they are doing in the name of public service.
